Where a person lives is central to who they are.

Home, for people served by Reflection of Reality, is a place where they can feel secure, surrounded by the things that belong to them and the people who share their life experiences. For many who come to us, choosing a new home is a comfortable transition from their own family homes or previous living situations. For others, particularly those who come from highly structured settings—such as state habilitation centers or hospitals—the community homes they choose to live in provide a first-ever sense of identity and belonging.

Building Relationships

With our Host Home living option, adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities live in private family homes in the community with specially trained in-home caregivers, called Mentors. Our Mentors are devoted individuals who open up their homes and their hearts to the individuals we serve.

Mentors support each individual in acquiring skills and participating in community life according to her or his own interests and abilities. Because this model is geared towards the needs of one person, Host Home living is highly flexible, allowing the individual to make choices and participate in community activities.

The Perfect Match

Reflection of Reality closely matches each individual with a Mentor whose home provides a comfortable and safe living environment. At the foundation of Host Home model is the unique relationship that develops between the Mentor and the individual served—a caring relationship based on personal connections, mutual respect, advocacy and support.
